An EMDR intensive is a concentrated, focused approach to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, designed to process traumatic memories and reduce distress in a shorter timeframe than traditional weekly sessions.
During an intensive, we will focus deeply on specific traumatic memories or experiences, using EMDR techniques to process and integrate them.
EMDR intensives involve multiple sessions in one day. These sessions are tailored to fit your needs and issues that bring you to therapy. As an EMDR clinician I will get a thorough history of you as well as other assessments to determine the best treatment
plan for you. Examples of Intensive sessions:
· 3 hours sessions twice daily
· 3 hours in one day, then 3 the next
As a devout follower of Jesus, I find that many struggle to internalize the depth of God's unconditional love and acceptance of them, often because they believe lies about themselves based on unresolved traumas, relationships or messages from others. I use a Christian based EMDR protocol to work through the lies people believe about themselves that may keep them from truly living in their freedom in Christ status. In the Bible, there is a saying "There is a balm in Gilead" which be symbolic for a healing salve. My hope as a Christian and a therapist is to help remedy the hurts of the soul using this methodology and, through the redemptive work of the Holy Spirit.
I did Basic Training in EMDR in 2009. I became board certified as an EMDR clinician in 2014 which required multiple advanced trainings. I was a facilitator and trainer for EMDR trainings in Oakland, CA. In 2018, I became an EMDR Consultant. It is important to me to understand the various nuances of EMDR theory and therapies, therefore I’ve taken advanced training in applying EMDR for the following specific populations:
· Grief, Loss and Mourning
· Recent Event – EMDR focused on a recent event, i.e. – accident, assault.
· Attachment Focused
· EMDR with Christian Clients – EMDR that specifically addresses issues of faith using various techniques within a Christ-based framework.
· Navigating Complex Trauma
I worked as an adjunct professor at Western Seminary, my alma mater teaching Psychotherapy Theories which enabled me to understand various modalities of therapy and implement them into my work.
